My Dad was with his partner linda for nearly TWENTY YEARS before finally getting around to tying the knot.
The whole wedding was decided on, and planned, within three weeks. And on a major shoe string!! Due to dads reclining health, it was a small affair with only immediate family invited, and a small gathering afterwards. However, despite it only being a small event, the cost soon started adding up!
The biggest cost, second to the rings - was cake. I started out at Chester Market where a custom made birthday 10inch cake was £70 - but a custom wedding cake of THE SAME SHAPE AND SIZE was £120. And it was the most most basic cake, just plain white icing and the word wedding piped on in red icing. They heard the word wedding and added £50 for no reason!!
However, I did find Kim's Kake Box - www.kimskakebox.blogspot.co.uk - and her cakes were AMAZING! She took the time to think about what I needed and gave me a quote based on my needs and requirements, not just a figure pulled from thin air!
We were worried that the day might not feel "wedding-y" as it was so small and short notice, but the cake really made the day, and it turned out to be a great day.
They day was fantastic, everything we wanted and more.
I would highly recommend Kim's Kake Box. The cake was delicious and there was enough to feed nearly 40 people despite a request for a 20 person cake!!! We were still fighting over the last bits...
My new step-mother cutting the cake!
It was a great day, and lots of money saving tips!
Anyone else had to do a celebration on shoe string with tips/businesss to share?
Sorry, I can't do fancy links! :-)
